Traditional Music in Dublin through the ages exhibition

Mick O’Connor, Dublin flute player and collector, has compiled a short visual presentation, which illustrates the continuity of traditional music activity in Dublin from 1900 to 2009. This presentation documents the much-neglected area of Irish traditional music in Dublin before the phenomenal growth of Irish music in the late 1960s.

Many people identify our native music solely with rural Ireland. This is not the reality. Irish music survived and flourished in Dublin, particularly in the inner city, prior to that revival.

Most of the photos used in this presentation are connected with the Dublin Pipers’ Club and are from his personal collection acquired over 40 years. Ceol na Cathrach is based on characters typeset in Trinité by Bram de Does and supported with News Gothic by Morris Fuller Benton.
